In the supermarket you can find more and more healthy options and we can only applaud that. Bear fruit rolls, for example, are readily available everywhere.
There is still some work to be done, however, because healthy snacks are not yet available at the checkout counter, where supermarkets want to tempt you into making impulse buys.
Even in the cookie or candy department, you can feel overwhelmed by the large (often still unhealthy) selection at eye and grab level. It is sometimes difficult to see the healthy forest for the trees. But healthy is becoming an increasingly important criterion for supermarkets, so things are certainly moving in the right direction.
Also, some of the "healthy" bars you can find in the healthy aisle are not always as healthy as they make it seem. So always check the ingredient list looking for hidden additives, added sugars. You can use official designations like 'no added sugar', 'no palm oil', 'high in fiber', 'high in protein' as an extra guide in your search for a healthy snack, but don't follow them blindly either.
Natural food stores
The days when you could only find healthy options in health food stores are fortunately behind us. But of course, the range of choices in health food stores remains large. So be sure to take a curious look at your local health food store and enjoy the wide range on offer.
