Eating something on a regular basis keeps your body's metabolism going. Our advice is therefore to supplement the 3 main meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) with healthy snacks between meals. Not by including the snacks as an extra in your diet, but by distributing your calorie intake more throughout the day.
Not only between the main meals, but also after dinner will happen when you get hungry again. Pizzas, ice cream and chips are obviously not the best choice for your body then. Just before going to bed-when your body goes into rest and will burn very few calories-you had better choose the right snacks.
No worries! You can perfectly satisfy a hunger before bed without worrying about gaining weight. We'll help you on your way!
Snacking before bed
Just like during the day, try to get ahead of hunger by eating something on a regular basis. In fact, feeling hungry will cause you to quickly reach for the unhealthy alternatives.
Some general principles:
- Some general principles:
- Avoid snacks with too many calories
- Avoid added sugars & fats
- Avoid caffeine
- Choose protein & fiber (which make you feel satiated)
- Eat in moderation, don't make it a second dinner
- Eat half an hour before you go to bed
- Choose 'fresh
Some examples
Low-fat yogurt with fruit
Low in calories, low in fat and packed with vitamins! As an alternative to fresh fruit, you can choose frozen fruit. An ideal alternative to ice cream.
You can alternate the low-fat yogurt with low-fat flat cheese (cottage cheese).
Eggs in any form
Eggs are filled with protein and help to repair your muscles. In addition, they are rich in a lot of vitamins: A, B2, B12, D, E & K.
Handful of 'pure' nuts
A handful of 'pure' nuts or a nut bar: these contain a serving of antioxidants before bed that help lower cholesterol and blood pressure. Thanks to the healthy fats and fiber, they make you feel satiated quickly.
Whole grain bread or cracker with toppings
Choose something lean as a topping such as chicken white, low-fat cheese, etc.
Vegetables
Like fruits, raw vegetables are an ideal choice for any time of day: fiber, vitamins and low in calories.
Popcorn if it can be just a little more
And we're not talking about the popcorn you buy in the store or at the cinema, because both the salty and sweet varieties contain quite a few calories. In addition, it goes without saying that it is better to avoid both sweet, and too salty, before bedtime.
Just make the popcorn yourself and flavor it with paprika, garlic powder or other healthy spices you like. Limit the amount of popcorn to 2 or 3 small cups.
