Make every day Compliment Day
March 1, 2023 is National Compliments Day and even though it seems obvious to compliment someone for something they have done well, there is still room for improvement. We should not limit ourselves to complimenting someone's work performance, appreciating someone's effort, team spirit, a nice outfit, ... it's all possible! Moreover, we often think our compliments, but forget to actually say them. That is why National Compliments Day can be a great reminder to give each other a compliment, an original gift, a thank you, a nice gift or a heartfelt high five more often. And that certainly doesn't have to be limited to that one day a year, of course! 🤩
Now why are compliments so important that we dedicate an entire day to them? Humans are still social animals and we are all looking for appreciation and connection. And let that be just what a heartfelt compliment can provide. A small attention, an encouraging word or an unexpected compliment can make a huge difference in someone's day. It doesn't matter if your compliment is about how good-humored someone is, what nice accessory they chose that day, about something they did really super well, about how they made your day by their kind gesture, ... Go for it and give those compliments! Are you a little hesitant to get started? We list 3 tips for you to get you started.
1. Be sincere and concrete
A compliment must be genuine for it to have any effect. So be as sincere as possible. Specifically mention what you think your colleague did so well or what you like so much, ask questions to show that you have a genuine interest. Case in point? I like the way you made the monthly follow-up sheet. Can you show me how you do it?", "Thanks for your help, I would never have finished it in time", "How nice that you really listened to me, without judging", ...
Above all, let yourself go!
2. Write down your compliment
Let the positive vibes flow throughout your team or company and ask everyone to write down a personal compliment for a colleague. Make this a habit and do it regularly. It can be a nice boost to the feedback culture in your company and only benefits the fine collaboration.
3. Be original
Would you like to surprise someone with a nice compliment wrapped in a fine gift? Then get off the beaten track and come up with an original gift! And what better way to do that than with a healthy surprise for a successful break? How about a snack box packed with healthy treats that will also give the recipient a healthy, balanced break?
By the way, our healthy snack boxes are the ideal hiding place for those compliment cards! That way you highlight that compliment with healthy treats and let the recipient feel that you appreciate them and care about their health.
A box of healthy goodies to share is also an ideal way to make complimenting an automatism. Put blank compliment cards in your snack display and encourage everyone to use them. This will make pausing more fun than ever and good for both body and mind!
